Hypnotic doses of barbiturates do not appear to impair uterine activity significantly for the duration of labor. Total anesthetic doses of barbiturates minimize the force and frequency of uterine contractions. Administration of sedative-hypnotic barbiturates into the mother for the duration of labor may perhaps lead to respiratory depression in the
